POOTILLA FARMHOUSE
Set on the outskirts of Ballarat, the Pootilla farmhouse occupies a rural site with views across established dams and native vegetation. Inspired by the clients' love of regional New Zealand architecture, the home is arranged as three linked pavilions: a main living zone with the master suite, a central entertaining zone, and a separate bedroom wing. Each able to be closed off when not in use. This zoning lets the owners live easily day to day, while retaining flexibility for visiting family and the years ahead.
A grounded palette of granite stonework and recessive dark cladding draws on the surrounding earth, settling the long, low form into its landscape. Raked ceilings open the living spaces to northern light, while generous glazing, sheltered decking and a Vergola frame the views, the sunsets and a strong connection to the outdoors. Bespoke joinery (built by the client’s godson) brings high level craftsmanship throughout, while solar generation and rainwater harvesting on a neighbouring farm shed keep services discreetly off the house.
